About Me
Hi, I’m Dawn- I’m so glad you’re here.
Reaching out for support is a brave and meaningful first step, and I’m honored that you’re considering what working together might look like.
Before becoming a licensed clinician, I spent several years supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges and developmental disabilities live meaningful, fulfilling lives. My experience includes vocational rehabilitation counseling, advocacy, program administration, and training other professionals in the field. I also have a background in education; I was an art teacher and hold an undergraduate degree in Fine Art and Secondary Education.
In 2007, I earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and went on to become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). I’ve owned A New You Counseling Services since 2013, but prior to that, I gained experience in a variety of settings during and after graduate school. These include an outpatient group practice, a sexual abuse treatment center, residential substance use treatment, and both inpatient and outpatient programs within the U.S. military mental health system.
My passion lies in supporting individuals on their journey of healing from childhood and complex trauma, relational wounds, and PTSD. Using a trauma-informed lens, I approach this work with deep respect for the ways our nervous systems adapt to survive overwhelming experiences. Many of the challenges my clients face—such as chronic illness, anxiety, depression, disordered eating, perfectionism, difficulty with boundaries, or feeling disconnected from their bodies and relationships—are often rooted in unresolved trauma. If this resonates with you, please know you’re not alone. I’ve walked alongside many individuals navigating these struggles and bring nearly two decades of experience working specifically with trauma and its impacts. This work is close to my heart, and I’m committed to offering a safe, supportive, and empowering space where healing unfolds at your own pace.
In my spare time I find balance through spending time with family, cooking, traveling, being out in nature, and engaging in creativity through writing, drawing and painting.
